A small Hungarian town with an unpronounceable name Hajdúszoboszló is famous, first of all, as one of the best balneological resorts in the country. For Hungary, where these very thermal springs are located in almost every village, this is an extremely high status, and it is absolutely deservedly received. “A Mecca for rheumatism patients and a paradise for swimmers,” is how you can briefly describe this place. Thanks to the “Hot Gold” (as the locals call the healing water), the flow of tourists here does not weaken throughout the year. And besides the wonderful healing effect, here you can still get a lot of impressions. How to get there

From Moscow to Budapest can be reached directly by direct flights or by train. Further from the Hungarian capital by Intercity train or the Budapest-Zachony express train, as well as by bus or by car. Travel time will be approximately 2 hours, and the distance between cities is about 200 km.

History

Like many other cities in Hungary, Hajdúszoboszló was badly damaged during the Turkish invasion. The revival of the future resort happened at the beginning of the 17th century thanks to the Prince of Transylvania Istvan Bochkai. It was he who granted these lands, depopulated after the Ottoman yoke, to the haiduks – the rebels who fought against the Janissaries, who proved themselves in the struggle for independence from the Habsburgs. In the name of the city, even today there is a part of the name of the Gaiduks (Khaiduks).

With the return of the inhabitants, the abandoned city began to recover and gradually develop. For several centuries he led a measured, calm life, but at the beginning of the 20th century, namely in October 1925, a historic event happened for Hajdúszoboszló. On one of the outskirts of the city, during the search for natural gas, which was led by a geologist named Ferenc Pavai-Vajny, a jet of water with a specific smell escaped to the surface from the ground.

This water, as it turned out later, had a unique composition. It is clear that after that the town had no other way but to become a world-famous balneological resort.

Since then, October 26 is considered the birthday of Hajdúszosboszló as a resort. Of course, it was not immediately known about the beneficial properties of local water. Local housewives, who washed water in the ditches, suddenly noticed that the rheumatic pains that tormented them gradually began to subside. After that, long-term studies of water were carried out here and, as a result, its healing properties were confirmed.

You can stay in Hajdúszoboszló in 3-4 * hotels, private small hotels or boarding houses, rent apartments and even stay at a campsite or tent camp. Since Hajdúszoboszló is popular with both Hungarians and many foreigners, the staff of hotels, restaurants, clubs and other public places is fluent in various foreign languages.

Hajdússosboszló can rightfully be proud of the largest hydrotherapy complex in the country, which is located in the very center of the city. Its area is as much as 25 hectares. The complex has 3 indoor pools with healing water of different temperatures. As well as children’s, outdoor, sports pools, a wave pool, a pearl bath – in a word, anything. More than 40 different procedures are carried out here, including such as: many types of mass (including underwater), mud therapy, therapeutic exercises, physiotherapy. In addition, many hotels in the city have their own thermal baths, where you can also get wellness treatments.

In 2000, a water park was opened here, by the way, the first in Hungary, which was expanded two years later. On its territory you can ride on 9 slides, the longest of which has a length of 1 km! Of course, in addition to slides, there are many pools (including for the smallest visitors), baths, streams.

March 1, 2009 was opened a new spa complex Hajdúszoboszló – Aqua-Palace. It has a “water” area of ​​​​1600 square meters. m, can receive 1000 guests at the same time and will work year-round. The spa complex itself is directly connected to the thermal baths and outdoor pools of the resort.

Attractions and attractions Hajdúszoboszló

Despite the fact that Hajdusosboszló is famous primarily as a balneological resort, one can safely say about this town that “not by water alone”. There are many interesting and beautiful monuments of culture and architecture, museums of various subjects. For example, one of the main and most beautiful sights of the city is the Bell House (Zoltan Rat). In this house, thanks to the efforts of the couple Edith Oborzil and Tibor Enei, there is a magnificent collection of bells cast using a unique technology.

One of the symbols of the city is the Church of St. Laszlo, which was built in the 18th century. Its walls are decorated with frescoes depicting stories about the discovery of healing water in Hajdúszoboszló. Bishop of Krakow Karol Wojtyla, who later became Pope John Paul II, once visited this temple. Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of the inhabitants of the city, like the whole of Hungary, are Catholics, there are churches of other Christian denominations in Hajdúszoboszló. For example, a temple built in the Byzantine style, belonging to the local (small) Greek Catholic community. And on one of the city squares called Calvin, a reformed church rises, standing, by the way, on the foundation of the 15th century. Near the church, in a somewhat ruined state, there is an ancient fortress wall.

The numerous museums of the city are also interesting. In the Bočkai Museum, named after Prince István Bočkai, you can see household and wardrobe items typical of the local population. For example, a shepherd’s coat or women’s dresses embroidered in the traditional style. Here are presented such interesting products as upholstery for occasions, decorations, harnesses and much more. The Museums of the Haydatsky folk art and the art gallery are also interesting.

Weather in Hajdúszoboszló

The city of Hajdússosboszló is located in the eastern part of Hungary, about 20 km from the second largest city after the capital, Debrecen. This balneological resort, which is famous far beyond the borders of Hungary, is located in an area called Nagyalfeld or the “Great Hungarian Plain”, that is, in the endless steppes. That is why Hajdúszoboszló has the warmest summers and the coldest winters in all of Hungary.

However, “cold” relative to the local winter is, of course, an absolute exaggeration. The average temperature of the coldest month, January, is around +3°C. Summer here is really very warm, the average temperature is about +25 °C. This climatic zone is also characterized by fairly strong daily temperature fluctuations.

Rains are rare here: the climate is dry. Despite this, the heat in summer is very easily tolerated, thanks to the large lake and thermal springs.
