The Windows Phone can have the screen locked by password, as a means of security that protects your device and your information. Only the person who knows the password can use the device. But it can happen that the person owns the mobile phone forget the password of the device. And if this has happened, it is not necessary to despair: you have a few options to recover your device.
I Forgot the Password of Mobile Windows Phone: Protect Yourself!
Already several of our readers who have forgotten the password of Windows Phone. And many of them even had a Microsoft account to assist in the recovery of password, or in the backup data of the device.
If you read the manual or follow the instructions on your device the first time you connect it, it will suggest to make the Microsoft account or use an existing one. You should also turn on the automatic backup of contacts, at least. And as soon as you enter a password for the lock screen, write it down in a place you know save. The care the most will save you many headaches later.
I Forgot My Password for Windows Phone: Starting Solutions
Typically, you set up your Microsoft Live account, Hotmail or Outlook account in the first configuration of the Windows Phone. In these accounts, as we speak, you have to enable the automatic backup of contacts. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the user name and password to unlock the screen of your Windows Phone. You have to fix the password to unlock the screen by the device itself, I can’t do this “out” of the device.
To unlock the screen, you have to reset your phone to factory settings to unlock the screen. There is no other way to reset the lock screen password in Windows Phone, unfortunately.
WARNING: when you use these methods, if you have not enabled the automatic backup of data, you lose data, photos, videos, SMS, passwords, WiFi, and everything else you had on your phone. With a backup in the cloud, you can restore the data to your device, after reboot. We advise: no one told you not to follow the instructions of the manual and of the screen when you turned on your device the first time.
Forgot Password Windows Phone: Hard Reset
This method returns your phone to factory settings.
Turn off your device using the on/off button. Press and hold the button volume down (-) and connect the charger to the phone. You will see a big exclamation mark on the screen. Press the following keys in order: volume up ( + ) volume down (-), power on/off, volume down (-). The phone will have undergone the hard reset and it will restart normally, and you will see a few gears on the screen.
To redo the password, make a NOTE somewhere where you won’t forget.
Using the Find My Phone to Give the Hard Reset on Your Windows Phone
Through Find My Phone, you can use the tool “delete” remotely. Just do it through the Microsoft web site.
There, select Windows Phone -> Find my main phone and login with your Microsoft account, Hotmail, Xbox or Outlook that you used on the Windows Phone, all from your computer. You will see the option to erase the phone, and the Microsoft will send an SMS message to wipe your device. This only works if you have the “push” notifications on in settings of the device, option find my phone-send apps to my phone using push notifications. This all can be done by a WiFi network, without the need for 3G or 4G
In both the methods, you will need to reconfigure your mobile phone. If even so, your unit still has problems, we recommend that you take it to an authorized service for Windows Phone, to unlock your device.
